Some more photos from along the Columbia River Gorge. It was just about sunset when we reached the top and it was sooo pretty as dusk was falling.
Back on the road again as the sun goes down...
That night we ended up in Portland. Our hotel was a little less than stellar, but we had fun just driving around and looking at things. We had planned to take Carter on the aerial tram the next morning, but when we woke up it was super foggy, so we skipped it and hit the road...
Steve wanted to make a pit stop at Voodoo Doughnuts though - and it was worth it. Carter and Steve enjoyed a Bacon-Maple Doughnut. I went for the Portland Creme...mmm...it was good. We got a few more for the road - all tasty! My favorite was the cake doughnut with tang drink flavored icing!
After we left Portland, we stopped about halfway to Grants Pass - in Eugene, OR. We stopped at the university there - very pretty campus and decided to stretch our legs by looking at the Natural History Museum there. Carter wasn't very impressed. Everything was either boring or too scary for him. Then we happened upon the kids area and we had to drag him out of there! Here he is making a mask.
Back on the road and we spent the night in Grants Pass, OR. A really lovely spot! I love Oregon - I told Steve I'd move there in a second! No sales tax, beautiful landscape, nothing all squished together like it is here. I don't think we'll be moving there anytime soon though! LOL
When we got up the next morning we only had a few hours back to SF. We headed up the last big hill before we hit the CA border and came upon this...so pretty!
Mount Shasta from the road...another really pretty spot!
We had a great trip, but overall it was really good to be home!

what a scenic drive. Those doughnuts sound sinful.
