Random Pics...

It's been super nice here the last few days...loving the hot weather! Here's a little pic of the ocean view for all you readers stuck in crappy weather! ;P Enjoy!
Carter started up at Soccer...he LOVES it. Here he is avidly listening to the teacher...
Running - working on following directions!
Got a ball - learning the #1 rule: NO HANDS! (He did pretty well overall with it)
 Learning to dribble the ball

Taking a break - and looking cute!

In other news...while Nancy was here, we went to Laurel Street Arts in San Carlos and tried our hand at glass fusing. VERY fun, and very addictive. Nancy shot this pic of me trying to design my very first piece. I went for trees - in all 4 seasons. It looks pretty good now it's fired - I'll take a pic and post it soon.
Carter has had a bedmate this week. I think little Miss Berkeley is missing Nancy (who let her sleep in her bed every night - Steve and I do not). So, every night she climbs up the ladder with Carter and settles down at his feet. A few times she's spent the whole night in there! Carter loves it, and surprisingly (after telling her a few stories) he settles down and goes right to sleep. I tried to take a pic of the two of them sleeping, but the flash woke kitty up...
I'll post some more pics soon!

One more...

This is a Carterism passed from his teacher at school.

They were talking this week about different ways to say hello at preschool. Carter piped up and said you could say hello in French too. The teacher asked, how do you say hello in French?

Carter said - Gezundheigt! (sp?)
LOL - too funny.

Carterisms...

This might seem a bit random, but I'm sitting here with the laptop open, and I decided I needed to write down a few of the silly things Carter is saying/doing.

He is currently attempting to open a CapriSun juice box. If you are not familiar with these, they are the most annoying juice boxes ever. They come in these silly foil packages that are hard for kids to open. He got one (after asking if he could) and said  -
Mom, you're gonna be annoyed.
Why?
Because when I get this open I'm going to spill some by accident.
Do you want help to open it then?
No, it's okay....you can just be annoyed.

LOL - edit...he did get it open after about 5 mins...and yes, he did spill some. I was mildly annoyed! ;) j/k!

Next he gets out his favorite DVD. The Polar Express. In March, he was still asking to watch it on a regular basis, and daddy said no more Polar Express until next Christmas. Meanie! ;)

So, Carter says -
Mommy, Daddy wouldn't let me watch this today, and I wanted to. Next time Dad goes out, you'll let me watch it, right??!

haha...if he could keep a secret maybe...but alas, he'll be waiting until late November.

Long time no blog...

Next week I'll probably be blogging up a storm, but this week I'm enjoying chilling with my sister. :)
Here's another layout though to keep you coming back!

Another layout!

The new "shabby" style of scrapbooking is definitely not my forte. I prefer things to be more clean on my layouts. I tried this out for a challenge though, and I think it turned out pretty well!

Carter was SO tiny! Hard to believe this was taken about a week before we moved to CA. How did he grow so much?! :(

DT call!

Wescrap is having a DT call. This is a GREAT site to design for. Lots of super great scrappers, inspiration, and fabulous kits! I am almost ready to cry that my term is over! Gonna miss it lots! :(

New Column

A new column of mine is up on the San Bruno Patch this morning. Please check it out and leave me some comments! :)

New layout!

Kind of a crappy pic of the layout...took it at 10pm, so I guess that explains it! LOL. However, I think this cute face makes up for it!

Wescrap!

It's Sketchy Saturday over at Wescrap today, and I designed the layout. Here's my example.
My sweet boy at 3. I used product from Fancy Pants and My Minsds Eye for this one!
and don't forget....the crop is going on RIGHT NOW!

12 hours...

Last night I took these pics in front of a friends home...
This is her pic...from her front door this morning. Thank god her home was saved. As you can see others didn't fare as well.

What people need now is blood - donate through the Red Cross...especially if you are type Onegative
and money...donate now! Help our friends and neighbors!

Reminder...

In light of all that's happened this week, and the fact my sister is due to arrive tomorrow...I don't think I'll be getting much scrapping done. :( However, YOU don't want to miss out! Fab prizes and a good time to be had!

Update...

10:30 at night...fire still rages...

53 homes completely destroyed
120 home damaged
fire is only 50% contained at this point...

Heartsick...

Words can't describe...

This is what a large residential portion of San Bruno looked like this evening around 6:30pm.
We were just sitting down to dinner around 6pm when I happened to look out the patio window and saw a huge cloud of thick black smoke rise in the air. We watched for a few moments, and then decided to (safely) take a closer look. We live only a 5 minute drive from this devastation.

When we arrived close to the scene it was getting chaotic. Fire, Police, Ambulance buzzing up and down the streets. People out of their cars on the freeway watching the fire burn. Residents chatting and crying. It was a very scary and very sorry sight.

I snapped these pics from the highway. When I opened the window the heat from the fire hit us! We weren't that close overall, but it was balls of hot flames rising in the air. It was noisy.

I drove down this street around 4:30 this afternoon having just left the grocery store...amazing.

Our family is praying for those we know in the area. Hopeful that everyone made it out of their homes safely. Wishing only that their homes and possessions were spared. This fire now spans blocks of the city, and is stil burning strong. Say a little prayer for the people of San Bruno, California!

A few more pics...

Did I share this one already? Carter in his Woody outfit from Brooke for his birthday!

Carter at Chevy's for dinner (a few days ago). He got a free ice cream and this cool hat!

and lastly, one more pic from today! Carter in his birthday hat from preschool! Too cute!

Getting it DONE!

Back to school for Carter means time for Mommy to catch up! While I've neglected the household chores this morning, I did manage to get caught up on some design projects that are (yikes!) due TODAY!

School is in session over at Nook U. There are lots of cool challenges, and a ton of prizes to be won. If you're looking for some scrappy inspiration, head on over and join in. It's not too late. Be sure to let them know I sent you - I get some bonus points! Here are some of the LO's I made for this weeks challenges...

For Typography class - use at least 3 different fonts and two different colors. Make the title a focal point.
This is Carter from last Halloween...yikes, gotta get these pics scrapped before THIS year!

For Graphic Arts class - use basic design principles. I went with flow, balance, and a focal point.
This is a pic from last fall - us at the beach with the GG bridge in the background. I also made this one with one of the fabulous Nook kits. You gotta check them out!

Lastly for Economics class - making ATC's with your scraps. You were supposed to make 3, but since my desk was OVERFOWING wit scraps...I made a few more.

There are already at least 2 new challenges up...gotta get back to work.

First Day of School

I'm feeling a little frazzled with the first morning back at school. It was tough to get into routine those last few minutes getting out the door (and of course some photos too!). We made it though. Dropped Carter off, and was pleased to see him run in and not look back. He was REALLY excited to go into the Big Explorers class for 4 year olds this fall, but he still seemed to have a bit of hesitation over having new teachers. So far, so good though! He is really excited as well since they are celebrating his birthday at school today, and he took a special snack (cheese, crackers and apple juice) for everyone.

Here's my big boy heading off on the first day...
Brand new Toy Story Backpack and lunchbox - cool new bday gifts!
Arriving at school!

Fun Pics!

Yesterday we went to the Millbrae Art and Wine Festival. I've always heard this was a fun event, but we've never gone. It WAS fun! Lots of things to see and do. It was a really hot day (I got a sunburn :( ), and it was nice to get out of the fog (at our place) and into the sun...

Carter liked the rides best. It was so busy, we really didn't take any other photos...

He also loved looking at this old Fire Engine. He stumped the poor Fireman at the booth by asking so many questions about it. LOL. "How old is it?" "How long have you had it" He saved himself by giving Carter a sticker.

Welcome to the Wescrap reveal of the September kit - Urban Skies! Sooo amazing! You NEED this kit. Soo much variety. I did three completely different layouts!

I also have TONS of paper left...not just scraps, big pieces! This kit is PACKED!

I have at least one more layout to debut at the crop next weekend! :) Don't forget to join us!

...and a card...

I have to apologize. I generally scan my layouts, since they look better. These ones have a lot of dimension though, and didn't scan well. It's too foggy to get good pics. I'll try to take some better ones on a sunny day! :(

Here's a look at what you get in the kit! Awesome!!

...and don't forget to join us next Saturday!

Good news times 3...

1. Carter is fast asleep...meds seem to be keeping everything under control. Whew!

2. Got the results of my biopsy. I have a big tumor..but it's not malignant! Whew! (some more treatment needed...but that's another story)

3. I just realized I am a mere 4 visitors away from 5000 hits on my blog! Exciting! :)

The end of the Birthday...and a MobiGo giveaway!

Well, our little guy ended his 4th birthday in the same place as he came into the world 4 years ago...in the hospital. Poor little guy! We put him to bed at his usual time last night. Aside from seeming really tired and a bit cranky, he was fine. He fell asleep, but about an hour later he woke up with this terrible cough and couldn't breathe. He was wheezing and coughing sooo much, he threw up. Poor baby! We got out his inhaler and gave him a treatment, cleaned up the bed...and gave him a second treatment. Bad to bed. 15minutes later - repeat (ugh, right down to the puke and new sheets). After the third attack it was obvious he wasn't getting better, so off to the emergency room we went.

He was wide awake, coughing and wheezing for almost 2 hours as we waited for the doctor. Finally, he curled up on Mommy and fell asleep. Of course what happened next? Here comes the doctor! He was OUT! Sooo tired from all the effort from the coughing. We could NOT wake him up. The doctor did his entire exam and he slept. We even had him sitting up and he stayed asleep. Diagnosis - croup with a side of asthma. I thought it was sort of crazy that the dr said he just needed a big dose of prednisone...and he knew that since he'd heard him coughing away for the last 90minutes. Um...I know there were other patients (although it was quiet in the ER last night). But seriously, he knew, and it took a one minute checkover and a dose of liquid meds. The really bad part was waking him up for the meds. He was really really out! We even had him standing up...asleep on his feet. Finally we got it down, and they let us leave. He has a script for the meds for the next 5 days.

Here he is asleep on mommy waiting for the doctor to come...
and finally mommy snuck out and let him sleep alone...her back was SORE! LOL

In other news, I am doing okay. Feeling not too bad after my uterine biopsy this week. It was pretty nasty, and the recovery has been worse than I thought...but getting back on my feet. Waiting for results is stressful too though. Thanks for all the good wishes! What a week! Going to be an expensive week for medical bills! LOL

In other news, one of my favorite sites - the Thrifty Mama is giving away a Vteach MobiGo system this week. I get an extra entry for the blog post! I TOTALLY think Carter deserves to win this after his rough night! Wish us LUCK!!

Happy Birthday Carter!

Happy 4th Birthday to my baby boy Carter! How did you get to be 4??!
Had to share this pic from his gift opening at his party last weekend. He was REALLY excited! LOL
