WeScrap Week Two!

I'm still in the running for a Designer spot over at WeScrap. Week two was a real challenge for me though. We had to do a layout that showed techniques that we don't usually do, or are comfortable with. I pulled out this Graphic45 paper which I got in a kit. I'm not a big fan, so it's been gathering dust. It was a definite challenge to use. I also use some paint on my project and used my sewing machine to stitch. Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out, but it really is not my style AT ALL! The LO was waaaay to thick to scan, so you'll have to settle for this crappy photo. ;) I'm looking forward to what Week 3 has in store...

In other news, we're still trying to wrangle ourselves together over here. We had a really good weekend last week, but by Sunday night things were falling apart again. Carter was sick and throwing up, and I wasn't far behind. It became pretty obvious we ate something BAD! Then Steve came down with it...and he's STILL got it. When are we all going to get better??!!

This morning I also headed to the dentist, well, actually the endodontist. Last fall I got this weird abcess on my gum. The doctor gave me some antiobiotics to clear up the infection, but warned the next time it happened, I'd need surgery on it. We both hoped it was a fluke. However, about 2 weeks ago right before I got the flu...it was back. UGH!

So, I headed over this morning full of dread and the unexpected. Overall, it wasn't as bad (painful) as I expected, but indeed, I did have my gum split open and my whole mouth is kind of achy. I have two follow up appts for the next few weeks as well.

Soooooo looking forward to mid-April when we are off to HAWAII! :)

House Update!

So here it is...the long promised House Update! Sadly, it might not be what you expected since...the house is still a mess, and I haven't been taking photos of the messy progress. Give it a week or so, and I'll have pics of the whole house!

Here's a bathroom update. Here is Carter in his bathroom. All done - just need to hang up the shower curtain. Looks good though. Here's our bathroom - also looks good. Sadly, once it was done we had a giant leak in a pipe and it leaked down through the pipes and through the ceiling in the kitchen. UGH! All is fixed now, and I've enjoyed many nice long bubble baths since.
The third bathroom downstairs (the one with the horrible painting in it with the stone wall and flowers) is almost done as well. Just needs baseboards! Pic to come...
Here is the only room in the house that's today and complete enough to take a photo of. Carter's room! It's small - but it looks cute!
And finally...saying goodbye to our old house. Kind of bittersweet...Here are a few photos of it empty. Carter's room...
Living room...
Computer/scrapbook area...
Our room...
Carter and Steve posing silly-like in the living room!
It was quite the job to get all moved out, but we did it!!!

WeScrap DT call

WeScrap is having a call for new designers! I LOVE this site, and I've been lucky to find lots of fun people and great inspiration through there. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you'll remember that about 6 months ago, I ever won a SLICE from participating in their online crop. You can't get a better forum than that!
So, I decided to throw my name in for the running. I'd love to design for them! Between being so sick lately (hey, the dr said my flu last week was H1N1, so I had a right in feeling so crappy), and the move (you should see this disaster of a house), I probably have no right in dropping everything to do some scrapbooking. Hopefully it will be theraputic though - regardless of the outcome! As I said, I'd love to design for them, but the competition is looking fierce! :) Good luck to all though!
I spent most of the morning today working on the first assignment. So cool! All designers/models need "A Glossy" - a self portrait of themselves. So, the challenge was to create a layout with a closeup photo of yourself, and include 5 facts about yourself on it. I had fun doing mine...and it WAS theraputic!
Here it is! Papers are by Lilibee and I used some Prima accents as well as a little lace I had laying around.

Wish me luck! And be sure to stop by at WeScrap! Sounds like they are planning another online crop in about 2 weeks....and they're giving away ANOTHER SLICE!! I want one of my readers to win it!!

Hellllloooooo out there!

2 weeks, and no posts. Anyone still reading this thing?? ;)

My oh my, what a two weeks it has been!
Here's a brief recap:

We moved out of our old place, and found we still had more stuff than we ever dreamed.
Got it done, cleaned, and carpets cleaned though with 3 whole days on our lease to spare.
It was kind of sad leaving there. It really started to feel like home...

The new place is a MESS! Therefore, not so much feeling like home.
Carter is better and rowdier than ever.
Steve is still pretty sick
and I came down with a flu unlike I have ever had the weekend. It left me fully unable to get out of bed for the better part of 4 days. I'm up and about now, but still super weak, and suffering the cold symptoms that come after the flu. UGH.

So...that's why the new place is a mess. We haven't unpacked anything really. Just the bare bones we need to survive. The rest is strewn throughout the house and the garage and looks terrible. The only room that looks somewhat liveable is Carter's room. I took photos, but of course I can't find my camera cold, so...sorry, this is a no photo post. It looks good though! :)

The bathrooms are done upstairs. We had a set back with those too this weekend. I decided to take a nice long bath to relax myself from my flu and uh-oh....Steve went downstairs to find a considerable amount of water seeping through the ceiling into the kitchen and family room. OMG! Our contractor was called at 10:30pm and was in bright and early the next morning. Turns out the problem was just a spot that missed caulking, and a few other minor repairs. Originally we thought the entire wall was going to need ripped out. YIKES!

Anyways, they look great. However, due to illness, we have only one shower curtain up in the one bathroom. The other one will have to wait. Glen is working hard on the powder room downstairs, and will also replace the flooring in the front entry. He says the bulk of it should be done today! Woohoo!!

In other news, Carter's preschool teachers told me last week that he has almost all the skills ready for kindergarten - including some that aren't usually learned until when they are IN kindergarten. He knows the basics like letters and numbers by sight, can *read* a few basic words, knows his first and last name and how to spell them, and can cut with scissors as well as a few other things. Apparently, they are especially impressed with his ability to skip since that is usually a skill picked up by 5-6 year olds. LOL - He's been doing that for most of a year. The kid is NEVER still. Anyways, that makes me feel good. Knowing that he's learning at school - as well as having fun, learning at home, and generally on the right path. Plus, since he's only 3, he has another 1.5 yrs to go to get to kindergarten. :)

Anyways, I will look for my camera cord to get some photos up in the next few days!! :)

Surviving...maybe...

Yikes! What a week....

It's 11:45pm...
Moving, cleaning, renovations still in full swing.
Carter's asthma attacks are back with a vengance...he's been coughing up a storm. He's up.
Steve's now sick...looks/sounds like the flu. He's up.
I'm still having some lovely ongoing health issues. Topped off with PMS! ;) I'm up.

We haven't eaten a real meal in days (um, yes, this likely contributes to the illness).
Last night we had spaghetti - from a box, with a jar sauce...and ONLY spaghetti. :S

The old house is a mess.
The new house is a mess.

Seriously...my supermommy status is wearing thin...maybe I'm fired...

Off to bed...maybe some sleep with help us all. For now, I had to get it all off my chest!
Wish us luck!!

Creative work...

Here's the only slight creative thing I've done in weeks (thanks to the move). A big vinyl sign for Carter's room. It takes up almost one whole wall - it's pretty big...I just had to stand waaaaay back for the pic. Each car is 6.5" long. If you can't read the small print it says "The Carter Express"

Appliances come tomorrow afternoon!!

Painting is DONE!

The painting was all finished up last week too. Here are a few pics of what the place looks like now - clean and fresh! The floors are even freshly washed.

The family room off the kitchen... Dining Room
View of the Living room
Living room from the other side...
kitchen cabinets - they were still a bit wet, but we have new hardware for them too.
My office/spare room (mess is from the bathroom construction)
View of the living area from upstairs
and there we have it! I'll take some more once everything is in place!
We spent the entire weekend moving stuff. We owe a huge debt of gratitute to Sam, Sean, Norma, and Matt who worked their butts off helping us move box after box and some big stuff too. Movers come for the big stuff first thing Friday morning. By next Monday we'll be living there! :)

Bathrooms...

These photos were actually taken last week - I just haven't had time to blog. There is a bit more done now. Faucets are in, floor is going in tomorrow and the rest of the stuff Weds! Bathrooms are going to be 100% done by Thursday! Yay!

The top pic is our main bath upstairs (Carter's), and the bottom pic the master bath.
