Carterism...

Steve and I were just laughing about this story (again) and it reminded me I should write it down...

Last week Carter brought up the differences between boys and girls. He's almost 5, so I sort of knew this was coming, but instead of launching into a big discussion I asked him "What do you think is the difference between boys and girls".

He surprised me (and made me laugh) with his very emphatic answer:
"Girls have ponytails, and boys don't"

OHHH...well, I never would have guessed! Steve and I giggled a bit to ourselves and decided to leave it at that. I couldn't help but bait him a little bit though and asked "what about girls who have short hair". He says "Hmmmmmm...you mean like Grammie? Well, they must not be sure if they are boys or girls yet..."

Yup, that must explain it! What a kid!
Gotta say, I don't mind him being a little naive about this stuff ;)

Yesterday he was playing with a small toy lightsaber, and the conversation came up again when he pretended to hang it on the back of his head.

He started giggling uncontrollably and asked "Mom, did I trick you?? Did you think I was a GIRL?"
Nutty little guy!

A new layout...

Carter and his physical therapist - they really love each other!

Nerw project

I made this for Scrapook Island in San Jose...
Created with paper and embellishments from Crate Paper and Fancy Pants.

Best Buds!

Last weekend was Carter's BFF Brooke's birthday. I can hardly believe these kids are 5! They have been absolute besties for over half their lives! They met when they were just a little over 2 years old.

Carter and Brooke in the bouncy house

Carter is getting GOOD at pinata pounding! He was reallllly happy to get a turn to hit it. The last several parties that had pinatas he didn't get a turn to hit it (usually the turns go youngest to oldest so he's one of the last), and I can see how hard it must be.

Ira (Brooke's Dad) is into archery and he's been showing the kids how to do it in the backyard. He says the kids are going out for archery scholarships later on (apparently there are a lot to be won). Carter really loves it, and is actually pretty good!

A new tooth!

Carter lost his first tooth! July 18th in the afternoon! The new tooth has been coming in for a few weeks, but the old one wasn't quite ready to fall out yet. The last few days it was getting really loose, but it just wasn't quite ready to come out yet. Carter was very brave and let Daddy try pulling it (hard!) several times, but it was definitely still lodged in there. On Monday we went out for breakfast with some friends and I could tell it was bugging him - he wasn't eating. I offered to call the dentist (since he said it was hurting) and see if he could pull it. Initially he said no, but about an hour later he asked me to. Figures - the dentist was on a week of vacation! When they offered to schedule us with someone else, Carter declined and said to wait.

We came home later that morning, and Carter started playing in his room. I noticed after a few minutes that he got up and closed the door - which is odd for him. I decided to give him a few minutes before checking to see what he was up to. About 2 minutes later I hear him come running and yelling "Mom!". He ran up to me and handed me something. Initially I thought it was a small lego. Often he asks me to pry small pieces apart. Then I realized what it was. He showed me his mouth, and he REALLY must have pulled it - it was really bloody in there! Ew! He told me "It was hurting a lot - so I just pulled and pulled and PULLED till it came out!" That's pretty brave!

The new tooth is almost all the way in (the crooked one to the left on the bottom).

And of course...the tooth fairy came! Carter was pretty excited for this, since we had been hyping it up a lot. He told us he hoped she left him one dollar - CASH! ha! Well, he was pretty excited in the morning to find out the tooth fairy DID leave him cash! $5 actually - and a little note saying after this the rate dropped quite drastically! The tooth fairy also left the little tooth behind to keep for the scrapbook.

Carter's money was buring a hole in his pocket (of course!). He has his $5 and about $4 more saved up. Went to Target and found a much lusted after Ninja ledo set for $8. One happy boy!

Carterism...

I had to write this story from today down...really sweet comments from Carter, and I didn't want to forget...

This morning while we were driving, Carter asked me what heaven was like. He is quite interested in what happens to you when you die lately (guess it's just normal for his age), so we've briefly discussed it. I started to tell him the things I usually tell him - about how heaven is a great place, etc.

He stopped me though, and said "I KNOW that Mom, but what does it LOOK like?"

So together we started piecing a picture of what heaven must look like. We decided it was high in the sky and full of light and fluffy white clouds.

Then out of the blue, Carter asks - "can I take crayons with me to heaven? "I was a little unsure of where he was going with this question, so I told him if he wanted crayons, I was sure there would be some in heaven. He says "Good mom. When I go to heaven, I'm going to get a red crayon and color my own cloud red. Then when you are up there with all those people you will see my red cloud and be able to find me super fast".

Seriously...I totally teared up in the car!

Then he told me "You color your cloud pink, so I can look up in the sky and see where you are every day!"

(We've briefly discussed that you shouldn't worry about dying/going to heaven since it happens when you are older. But since Mom and Dad are older we will go to heaven before Carter)

A new layout...

Weekend Happenings...

We had a busy weekend around here. Bowling with friends on Friday, and birthday parties galore! It was a fun time! I didn't take too many pics...but here are a few!

Carter with his friends at SeaBowl

Carter with his cool motorcycle balloon he got at Joey's party...
...and a lightsaber! (he is "using the force!")

We topped it all off with a super special treat! Carter has been asking to camp out in his room on the floor. He got this cool tent and sleeping bag for Christmas and they haven't been used yet (despite numerous pleas to mom and dad). So, we let him camp in his room tonight...we'll see if he makes it through the night in there! He'll get to use the sleeping bag again in a few weeks when we actually go camping!

The set also came with a flashlight!

A few new projects...

Here are a few layouts I've made recently that I haven't shown off yet...

A LO of Berkeley on her 2nd birthday. I did this one to go with a sketch over at Wescrap.

Carter on Christmas morning. The only kid in the world that loves sleeping more than presents! We got him up, and even though he knew Santa came, he decided to curl up on the couch and catch a few more Z's. Didn't last long though - the lure of gifts won out!

Our family in Maui last year - another project I did for Wescrap.

This one I made for Scrapbook Island - a princess door hanging. It will be auctioned off to raise money for Breast Cancer this fall...

Video Tutorial...

I have a video tutorial up on Crop Chocolate today!
Crop Chocolate is a scrapbook deal-a-day site. You can get some great product at a great price there. Check it out!

Happy 4th of July!

We had a really great 3 day weekend here. Saturday was a bit of a chill day for us, then we spent Sunday at the beach. Today was the 4th and we wanted to get out and enjoy the sun again. So, we headed to Ryder Park in San Mateo and had a really fun time!

This first pic has nothing to do with our weekend activities...however, it happened all 3 nights of the weekend. Carter has gone to bed in his own pjs - but when we check on him later he has managed to get himself fully dressed into MY pjs. I couldn't resist snapping a pic last night (he got them on inside out). I asked why he was doing it - and it said "they make me smell you in my dreams". LOL

Here we are at Ryder Park - we went with our friends for a little bit. This is Carter and Hunter. Hunter thinks Carter is the coolest. Carter quite likes that Hunter thinks that, and is pretty good about being a good sport with him. Watch out however if Hunter happens to want something that belongs to Carter. LOL Right now they are best of friends! Hunter just turned one...

Carter and his BFF Brooke on the swings
 Playing in the water feature...

After Brooke and her family left, we hiked up the hill to take a look at the bay. Here is Carter looking EXTREMELY patriotic with his flag (he came up with this pose all by himself!). Kinda funny since we are actually Canadian...LOL
Daddy and Carter (Carter really loves that little flag!)
 Mommy and Carter
We are going to finish up our day with a BBQ at home and a surprise for Carter - we're making root beer floats for dessert! shhh!
