Birthday DIY

I did a lot of handmade touches for Carter's party. Many ideas thanks to my new favorite website - Pinterest. A few ideas from Etsy, and some of my own. I think they all turned out pretty well!

I made all the kids their very own superhero masks. This is the front side. They are reversable so they can be this side or the other side which is plain black.

Superhero Lollipops. These were GONE at the end of the party, so the kids liked the candy at least!

Party food sinage! Nancy (my sis!) helped me make these.

Cupcake toppers

"Bad guy" balloons...they weren't so "bad" looking, but cute and cheaper than buying store bought.

Carter actually made me this. Sooo adorable! He was sad I didn't have any super hero gear to wear to the party, so he made this all by himself. It's "Captain America Mommy" apparently. We glued it onto an old happy bday badge we had.

Cupcakes at the party.

Snack display!

Captain America Crunch

Healthy foods. Surprisingly, there wasn't much left!

Spidey snakcs were spiderman cheezi-its and graham crackers

Whoppers as Bat Pellets

Chips and other snacks as fuel.

Water bottles

I hope all the little additions made for a fun party!

Kickball Game!

One of the big fundraisers for Carter's school is their annual Walkathon. It's a pretty fun fundraiser too. The kids raise money for several weeks and at the end they do a walk. The walk is next Friday. We like to support this one since it's encouraging physical education at school. Plus, all the money raised goes directly to the school. The teachers get money to purchase supplies and items for their classrooms. In exchange for their fundraising efforts, the teachers give the kids incentives. The individual classes classes have prizes, but the school does big prizes for community building at $5K increments. So far, the principal climbed on the roof to do the morning pledge (which the kids think is hilarious). They got a free no homework pass. They've earned a movie and popcorn party in their classrooms, a day where the teachers switch classes...and this kickball game!

All the classes watched, but three kids from each class got to play. Carter was pretty excited his name was chosen from a random draw to play for his class.

Here he is in line to kick...

Watching closely...he's next!

KICK!

First base...(took a little coaching to get him there, he wasn't sure where to run at first)

Getting a little guidance on when to run for 2nd...

Scoring a point for the students! (That's Ms Mirt the principal telling him where to run to!)

Pretty happy with himself! (admittedly, a lot of kids didn't make it all the way around...or even to 1st. So, pretty good for a little guy!)

Now it was their turn to play in the outfield. Carter spent quite a bit of his time out there waving to his fans. Yes, he did. I am not kidding about that. He did run after a few balls though ;)

It was a fun game to watch and a perfect sunny afternoon to be outside.
The kids were excited to win 24-23 over the teachers. It was a fair win too - the teachers were trying hard!

They have a few more rewards coming up. They are hoping to make it to the big reward of MS Mirt going in the dunk tank. All the kids in the school get a chance to try and dunk her!

Birthday Gifts

My friend Kym had a birthday this week and a few girlfriends celebrated with her by going out to lunch. I decided to make a few gifts to brighten her day.

A larger altered notebook
A dayplanner for next year (I know she's a big dayplanner gal!)
 and a smaller notebook!
They were all designed to coordinate using the Social Club line from Cosmo Cricket.
Love those bold colors!

Lastly a card to go with...it's coming on fall, so I used the turning leaves for a color punch.

More Birthday!

This boy is getting spoiled for sure!! Today he is officially 6 - and pretty proud of it! ;)

He started off the day by not waking up until 9:40am! He topped that by heading to the washroom and then getting back INTO bed. He was up and ready to start the day by 10am though. Just in time for Daddy to come home with an extra specia treat for him!

Then it was present time! He got some gifts from Nancy, my mom, and us as well as a few cards and well wishes that had been mailed.

Transformers car and a cute Nemo shirt from my sister - Awesome! (his words)

The best - the dragon playmobile set he'd been lusting after for a while. Also from my sister, and my mom as well. More "awesome". It really was - he played with it for almost 3 hours solid!

Once we dragged him away from that, we headed into the city to Fisherman's Wharf. We hadn't been there for quite some time and thought it would be fun for Carter. It was fun - but what were we thinking?? Touristy SF on Labor Day weekend? Um, crazy!! Remind me not to do that again!

Carter saw this cute hat store and wanted to go in. He was quite the model and tried a lot on.

This one is hard to tell...but it was a hotdog!

Then he rode the carousel. We bought tokens for 2 rides. The first time he rode on the upper level (no pics - too hard to take). The second time he decided to ride on the bench. Silly guy. Both Steve and I and the ride operator told him he'd have a better time on an animal, but he insisted this is what he wanted to do.

The ride operator convinced him to at least switch to this seat which rocked a little! LOL

When he got off, she said - why don't you go one more time and ride an animal. So, he did. Sweet! A free ride. He tried out this rabbit, but ultimately switched to the horse.

After that we went to the Mechanical Museum - all really old vintage mechanical games. Most are in working order and cost about a quarter to play. We looked at all of them, and played a few.

I think there was some cheating on this one...but even then they didn't get the top score ;)

Finally, we finished up the day with dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. We've peeked in at a few locations before, but never eaten there. Carter was reallllly excited, so we were glad. I don't think it will be an experience repeated very soon. It's pretty pricey for the budget, but a fun bday treat!

Carter being silly during the thunder/lightning storm. It was definitely the most fun. We got to sit through it 3 times. Very noisy, but fun :)

Silly guy is all into winking lately

Watching the waiters sing to him...and a scoop of ice cream. Side story, they tried to convince us to order this really spectacular looking dessert for him. Tons of people were ordering it. It's a huge chocolate ice cream volcano. It looks inviting and delicious on the card they show you (with no price). I snuck a peek at the price in advance though (thank goodness). It was $15.99!!! Carter was a little bummed we cheaped out. LOL. He enjoyed his 99cent ice cream instead.

Lots of fun and a full weekend for the birthday boy! :)
